I would be fine with residents property taxes going to maintain their cul-de-sac. But if I live in a building downtown without owning a car, my property taxes will still be paying your your cul-de-sac under your proposal, correct? It's not like there are separate property tax rates depending on the style of street you live on.

Half penny tax just means for every dollar spent a half a penny goes to the tax. Obviously they take the aggregate and round up or down.

Okay, I thought they were talking about an additional .5% sales tax on top of the 1% sales tax we're already paying.

As far as infrastructure I am all for it but there's a whole lot more than just public transit involved. We need to address water, the power grid, roads and bridges, ports, dams, freight, airports, you name it.

More or less yes, I personal Like a Frontage Fee,

(With a "Free" allocation for corner lots, you pay the frontage fee for the Largest Frontage you have, If you own the whole block you would pay like 80% of the total frontage, )

The Frontage Fee would provide access to your local property. For the MARTA bus to pick you up, the UPS guy to drop off your boxes.

I see the Frontage Fee being calculated as, Local Road Maintenance / (re)Build costs + Local contribution to Collector road Maintenance costs, Divided by Total (Calculated/Billable Frontage) = Frontage fee per foot of Frontage.

So a City/Town/County with $10,000,000 of local Road maintenance cost per year / Total Frontage 50,000,000 feet of frontage (Billable) = $0.20 per foot of frontage so a Home with 50 feet of would pay a frontage fee of $10/year, A downtown building with 100 feet of frontage would pay $20/year, but if its multi-story it would still be $20/year/

If Fulton and DeKalb outside COA want it that is their business, just leave the city of Atlanta out of it. We are already taxed up to our eyeballs.

A Half Cent Sales Tax bring up a interesting question do the COA voters also get to vote on the Fulton/DeKalb county Ballot question also?

Or do they only get to vote on the COA Question? Or Is it only a County based question on the Ballot?

Traditionally transit has not been funded at the same level as road and bridges. It is time to fund them at the same level and give commuters an option.

What's weird is they ALMOST got the ability to raise taxes this past session. In exchange for Dem support on HB170, the GOP agreed to support a provision in HB213 allowing MARTA-member counties to raise their sales tax to 1.5%. The amended bill passed the Senate, but the sales tax provision was removed from HB213 before it passed.

The 1.5% sales tax provision was added on April 1. Make of that what you will. :/

This makes no sense considering we have the bulk of MARTA infrastructure within the city limits.
