You are definitely out of the loop if you think people aren't drinking after work at dozens of places to include Ra Sushi, Yard house, Strip, Fado Irish Pub, World of Beer, Hop City at KSM, Gypsy Kitchen, any place on Crescent Ave, West Midtown, East Andrews Entertainment District, any intown hotel bar, etc etc etc

I don't doubt that folks are drinking but are they getting Happy hour prices?

That question let's me know that you are definitely out of the loop. Like I said a million times on here "stop believing everything you read on the Internet and go out and see for yourself "

Well, if I were running a bar I would sure worry about it.

That's the sort of thing you don't want to get busted for. Your regular customers don't mind paying anyway.

It's not advertised. It just is what it is. Some things don't need to be explained nor advertised.

Nothing new. Has been going on for ever in a day.

There are advertised happy hours in the bars/restaurants in Macon so I don't believe there are any STATE laws against it. I am usually only in Atlanta on the weekends so I don't keep up with the weekdays. :-)

There are lots of happy hours around the city. Most include food AND drink specials, so I just assumed that if there was a food special, there could also be a drink special. Maybe that's wrong? I don't know the legality of it, but there are definitely plenty of happy hour specials around town, and most are advertised as happy hours.

Here's a pretty good summary of the city code.

Probably best not to play with fire.

Quote:
Sec. 10-226. Certain promotions prohibited.

(a) All on-premises alcoholic beverage licensees are prohibited from selling or giving away alcoholic beverages under the following circumstances:

(1) Serving multiple drinks for a single price or offering all you can drink for a set price.

(2) Making a single price the basis for a required purchase of two or more servings.

(3) Serving alcoholic beverages by the pitcher, except to two or more persons at any one time.

(4) Offering to any person or group of persons any alcoholic beverage at a price less than the price regularly charged for such alcoholic beverage during the same calendar week.

(5) Offering or delivering any free alcoholic beverage to any person or group of persons.

(6) Increasing the volume of distilled spirit, malt beverage or wine contained in an alcoholic beverage without increasing proportionally the price regularly charged for such alcoholic beverage during the same calendar week.

(7) Using coupons or other special promotional items as an inducement to purchase alcoholic beverages.

(b) This section shall not apply to private functions not open to the public. The term “private function not open to the public” means any function wherein the licensee has agreed to the use of licensee’s establishment by a person for a set period of time for valuable consideration.

(Code 1977, § 14-2148; Ord. No. 2004-12, §§ 1, 2, 3-9-04)
