In my industry, prestige is a major factor and most of my employer's clients are in large metros like San Francisco, Boston, NYC, and Chicago. These are all prestigious, industry-leading cities with large financial sectors, a dominant tech sector in San Francisco, etc.

Cities like Atlanta and the FL cities are never mentioned as prestigious. Texas is, somewhat, but still far, far less prestigious than the premiere CA and northeastern metros.

Do you think Atlanta has the prestige of northeastern metros, CA metros, Chicago, etc?

No, but that's fine. You don't live on "prestige."

No it's not! They are trying to Re-brand this city. You can tell and feel it. But they are not doing it the right way. So again. No. Are we close...No. Can it be done. Maybe.....

Since you are living in Indy why don't you worry about when Indy will have the same prestige as NYC or Toyko

Of course not.

But you know, I like Chicago, but I don't really see it as that prestigious.

I would actually rank a city like Boston or Washington probably higher than Chicago.

I'd put Atlanta with Seattle, Nashville, Dallas, etc. And then below that would be like Tampa, Philadelphia, maybe New Orleans....that's just in my mind.

Compared to say, NYC, LA, and SF, not really. Maybe a tiny, tiny bit (Olympics, Coca-Cola, Delta, the Home Depot, etc.), but in the context of the international economy, Atlanta honestly doesn't mean all that much.

I know GaWC ranks Atlanta as an alpha- city, but eh....

Whoa there, Indiana!

Don't forget the center of capitalism and the free markets is headquartered right here in the ATL!

(Well, in the suburbs anyway! But that's our own internal issue...None of your concern! Keep walking! )
