I was present and the Mayor made the announcement that the reservoir would NOT have a fence around it and be open to recreational uses.

That would be awesome if true, I just don’t know how that’s possible given the depth of the quarry.

What other interesting things did you catch from the announcement? Is Phase 1 still on track to open in 2019?

What's the difference between a real lake and this quarry? Deep water is deep water, nothing special.

Usually in a real lake, the water is shallow near the shore and gets progressively deeper. Isn't the quarry an immediate 100 foot drop off?

When empty, yes, but by the time the park opens the quarry will be filled to the brim.

But the water will be 100-feet deep at the shoreline, right?

It's called floating...and if you can't do it, stay out of the water.

There has to be something. A dog or a kid don’t no better. Screams lawsuit if there really isn’t anything.

You can drown in a bathtub. In fact, a Tech student drowned in Piedmont Park's rather shallow Lake Clara Meer a few years ago.
I simply fail to discern the importance of the water's depth. Do we even know if swimming or boating will be allowed on it?

SAE pledge's death should not be forgotten
