This is part of the reason for criticism of soccer here and how it's just trying to emulate Europe. You have teams like Real Salt Lake which is just copying the style of Real Madrid, Real Betis, Real Sociedad, etc. Real is just royal in spanish. You have a bunch of "Uniteds" and of course the FCs. I'd like the MLS to truly have its own character instead of trying to match the rest of the world

Im guessing the rival will be the Orlando City SC, they have a nice fanbase down there.

I'm quite frustrated with this choice of name. Manchester United is the most recognizable team in the world with the name "United." One of their main chants is "Glory Glory Man United" sung to the battle hymn of the republic. Meaning there is a good chance this will become a chant for the new team.

This tune is also the uga fight song. So the team has uga colors (although they did try to use yellow as an accent as I assume a nod to GT) and will most likely have a uga fight song as their main chant. As a GT fan that is a bit alienating. I was really looking forward to embracing this team but this makes me think twice.

Seriously.

I don't follow soccer at all, and EVEN I KNOW MANCHESTER UNITED.

".......Why did the supporters opt for United? Eales wonders if it might have to do with the diversity in the city and the younger generation of transplants flowing into Atlanta with a forward, progressive outlook -- "This is a city that can unite behind this club," Eales said. "That's one of the things that seemed to emerge."

FC could stand for:
1. Free Chimichangas (on opening day?)
2. Fingers Crossed (that the team doesn't go the way of our last two pro soccer teams. RIP x2 Atlanta Beat)
3. FIFA's corrupt
4. Free Campbell (Bill... oh wait, he's already out)
5. Funnel Cakes (served at every game?)

Yeah, I'd like to know this too. It seems so pointless.

Definitely not the worst name, but certainly uninspiring. Meh defined.
