I usually don't support casinos, but I do believe a casino in Downtown Atlanta and on Hutchinson Island in Savannah makes sense.

Casino and entertainment giant MGM Resorts International is pitching a $1 billion gambling complex for downtown Atlanta that backers say would funnel tens of millions of dollars into the HOPE scholarship. But first it would have to overcome stiff opposition in the General Assembly and the governor’s office.

MGM’s proposal would create 3,500 jobs and offer Las Vegas-style casino gambling, as opposed to past ideas involving video slot machines, said state Rep. Ron Stephens, who chairs the House’s economic development committee. He called it the “Cadillac” of casino projects.

“I’ve seen what they want to do, and it’s going to blow your mind,” said Stephens, R-Savannah. “It’s massive in its size and its elegance. This is a game-changer. I’m looking for a win-win-win and this is it.”

An MGM Resorts spokesman confirmed the company’s interest in Atlanta but said its analysis in “the very preliminary stages.” The company started scouting Atlanta in recent months. The project would include a luxury hotel, entertainment venue, a gaming floor and other amenities.

Busses of seniors hopped up on Parkinson's drugs hocking their dentures once they've blown through their social security cheques, more pimps, more sex trafficking, more drugs, less lotto revenue because more locals are going to play table games instead.

I'll pass. id rather have an open sewer downtown. I'm not alone. Any local pol with their fingerprints on this is going to get punished.

A limited Casino district in Downtown Atlanta in the heart of the hotel convention district would be an incredible idea. It would create jobs, add excitement and produce revenue for the state often through the sales of entertainment to people visiting the city.

I can also understand the pitch for Savannah for similar reasons. Why not foster tourism in a historical city perfect for it?

I've been against every casino suggestion because I've seen second tier casinos. They are sad pathetic places where poor people blow their money and are just utter dumps.

However, I've always said that if MGM would come in and build a complete Vegas style casino, I'd be all for it. These are the guys who know how to make casinos work and they keep the trashy element out.

I'd be for this. But I'd also be for language that requires MGM to operate the casino. If they ever pull out, it can not be sold. It goes to the city and must be dismantled as a casino immediately.

Just what Downtown needs, and probably right next to a major university too!

If you don't want it in your neighborhood, don't put it in mine.

Downtown needs to be a neighborhood. Not just a destination.

Vine City has already been screwed beyond any recognition. Do you really think it can be saved? If so, how will being next to a demolished stadium be better than being next to a thriving casino?
