i have a kind of libertarian bent, so i'm not big on banning practices like gambling, but if they build a casino downtown, it will define downtown forever in a way you will never be able to undo. i know people are excited about virtually anything that could be done to revitalize downtown, but i really don't think this is the ticket.

I really just have no idea where to put it... hopefully not the gulch. Maybe the soon to be empty dome site, but as others have said, that'll push right up against Vine City. I'm been to Vegas a few times, seen what's around these casinos, and let me tell you: once you're off the resort properties, and a block or so from the strip, it's bad. Empty lots. Dead appartments. Sketchy hoods.

I'm not saying that we can't avoid that, but we would have to make a concious effort to make it part of downtown as a whole. A good example would be the 'City Center' partly open mall. Serving both cacino goers and everyday locals for entertainment. A bad example would be Circus Circus, or Stratosphere, which are isolated from their surroundings and practically walled in like a fortress.

Casinos are generally a bad idea. The premise is they are in business to take people's money, the "odds guarantee a win for the house!" People use the excuse it is "entertainment" but in reality it is a multi-billion dollar business designed from the doormat to the exit sign to separate suckers from their money!

I have spent money in casinos, even left the last trip to Vegas with about $3200 of"their money" but as a whole it isn't good long term for a community as it takes money out of the community. Atlantic City was on CNBC this week talking about how 50% of their casinos have gone out of business, the Borgata is the new top dog and is essentially cannibalizing the older casinos business.

You do realize that a majority of those 3K jobs are going to be minimum wage type and aren't really going to be "new jobs" but rather taking jobs from other industries. Some like the construction jobs will be good, higher paying but they are temporary. But consider the small diner restaurant or local bar that gets put out of business because the casino has $5 steak dinners and $1 beers to lure in gamblers. So that small diner or bar staff simply starts working at the casino instead......5 jobs lost, 5 new workers at the casino....Not really 5 new jobs when you consider the whole picture.

Not a fan. I don't believe there is such a thing as "Vegas-style". All that means is that it will be big. It does not mean it will have the same vibe and clientele as Vegas. If you want "Vegas-style", then go to Vegas. If you just want to gamble, then go to Harrahs Cherokee or something.

Hope this birdseye view isn't superfluous, but have to wonder as well where it could go.

Would probably be fairly popular as an attraction, since it'll be more than just a casino.

It would fit perfectly in the Gulch area.

If it would be like Harrah's in downtown NOLA, it would be a great idea I think.
