That may be true, but the west side (west end, westview, vine city) of the city is far less gentrified than the east side. The east side (edgewood, kirkwood, reynoldstown, east atlanta, etc.) is way further along in gentrification and is way more mainstream, which attracts mostly northern suburbanites moving to atlanta seeking to avoid the dreaded traffic they have heard all about. Also, a lot of northereners were not living in atlanta when those east side neighborhoods used to have such a terrible reputation. Westview has a LONG way to go and in my opinion is still very blighted. It doesnt have a nice new target and 3 starbucks.

Clarkston is definitely turning into the ghetto, if it wasn't before. We moved there a year ago not knowing a thing about the place. Boy, did we learn quick. During that time we had our car stolen, heard weekly reports of burglaries on our street, had our neighbor across from us mugged in broad daylight in his own driveway, armed robberies a block away, and to top it off we witnessed a murder on the sidewalk in front of our home.
Maybe it will someday get better (and for the sake of all the immigrants and refugees living there and just trying to get by, I sincerely hope it does.) But until then, DO NOT MOVE TO CLARKSTON.

I met some people who said they were trying to improve the park in Clarkston and I asked them about what was going on over there.
They thought things were going pretty well.
I think there are problems around Montreal Rd but there are some really nice little houses in the City/town of Clarkston. Things might be better there.

Yes, I've been hearing some rumblings about gentrification in Clarkston as well...but it will be awhile before it can shake off its' old reputation as the murder capital of GA.

I know. From E Ponce to Stone Mt Industrial it's been pretty bad for a while.
I saw the greatest little house somewhere in Clarkston. Near a youth activities facility--I had driven around and around so I'm not certain where I was. This little house was so perfect. Maybe 1930's --renovated and it had a great sunroom and a fine old tree.
I see houses like that around Chamblee, too.
There are some very nice older homes around.

Please come correct!
You all don't have to believe me drive on out to
holiday marine and visit J dock and K dock so you can see my bayliner and silverton yall want the dang boat registration numbers because i can provide them easily. Better yet why don't you all come on out to southland ( 1227 GREENRIDGE AVE, Lithonia, Georgia 30058, Lithonia, Georgia real estate for sale a lovely lithonia home for your viewing pleasure) and visit my 3 story 3 car garage house in the non-hood affluent black community where many lawyers, doctors, executives, and engineers reside. try south stone mountain lithonia road that happens to be stone mountain i would also like to say i have never felt threatened in this area yes there are some rough patches but areas have them and stone mountain and lithonia is no differnt the statistics are misleading because my cousin lives down the street on the other side of southland by stephenson and her zip is 30083 and mine is 30087 so they make it seem like the white side of stone mountain has more money when that just isn't the case they manipulate area codes to their advantage! Check your stats and come correct i would once again like to state i am black live in stone mountain and my dad makes more in a month then you do in a Year as a director of the multi-billion dollar unnico facilities managment company, landlord, adminastrator at a prestigous college(i won't say which because some of you all might be stalkers), and one of the first black engineers. TOP THAT!!!!!!!

Do your neighbors have first initials K & MM? My girlfriend has a friend who lives in Clarkston, and this sounds identical to their situation. He got mugged in their own driveway within the last couple of months, and someone just got murdered in front of their house a few weeks ago. Also last fall they had someone burglarize the house one day while he was in it asleep. It's insane. I believe my GF said they live on Northern (??) or something similar. I've never been there.

Why argue over the meaning of the word "ghetto"? The facts are presented to us on television and in the newspapers. Whatever you want to call it, it is a fact that crime has moved out to what has been known as the "suburbs".
On my street in suburban, unincorporated Clayton County, where homes in the area range in price from $120,000 to $700,000 and maybe higher, there have been 4 cars stolen (on my street alone), there have been numerous burglaries of items from homes in the area, and two fatal shootings within a mile of my home. This "stuff" was not occurring 10 to 20 years ago.
Who cares whether it's called a "ghetto" or not?
