Atlanta mayor: InterContinental hotel at Hartsfield-Jackson will diversify revenue | AJC@ATL

I found Reed's awareness of the on-going shift in transportation impressive:

Parking makes up about a quarter of the airport’s revenue, but in the future that could shift with the growth of options like Uber, Lyft and eventually even self-driving vehicles, Reed said.

“I don’t believe, candidly, in 10 years, or 12 years, or even faster, that most folks are going to drive to the airport,” Reed said. “Our sense is that airports’ revenue streams are going to have to change for the future.”

Atlanta Regional Commission awards grants to two Clayton County cities | News | news-daily.com

Quote:
The Atlanta Regional Commission has awarded nearly $700,000 in grants to the cities of College Park and Jonesboro.

The grant is part of the ARC’s Livable Centers Initative, which awards governments grants to enhance existing areas undergoing development consistent with regional policies.

The city of Jonesboro was awarded an $80,000 grant from the ARC.

The grant is intended to account for MARTA bus service in the Jonesboro area, and is also intended to start the process of planning a future rail station in the Jonesboro area.

City Clerk Ricky Clark said the grant would be significant for the city.

Calls to MARTA representatives were not returned.

College Park was awarded $615,000 in two grants. The first award for $80,000 is to develop the aerotropolis development around Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

The $80,000 grant will be used to construct a pedestrian bridge crossing Camp Creek Parkway. The bridge will connect the Georgia International Convention Center to downtown College Park.

“Increased walkability encourages healthier lifestyles and connectivity between the Georgia International Convention Center and downtown College Park,” said Artie Jones, College Park’s economic development director.

“This bridge will play a major role in creating a more vibrant community where neighborhoods once existed,” Jones said.

The second award, worth $535,626, is earmarked for engineering of sidewalks and trails for the Global Gateway Connector, which would link Camp Creek Parkway and Roosevelt Highway. The 1.2-mile road will provide accessibility to Hartsfield-Jackson’s rental car facility.

“This is our opportunity to execute a progressive forward vision for College Park,” said Jackson Myers, special projects director for College Park. “We’ve done the planning and scoping. We aim to develop a global, world-class city.”

Myers said the city looks to improve the area’s landscape to benefit residents and visitors to the city alike.
College Park is really trying to become more pedestrian friendly, and Jonesboro is ready to plan its rail station.

$100 million mixed-use project planned near airport

Quote:
The first phase would be a 17-acre development that would include at least 50,000 square of retail such as a boutique grocery and resturants.
I don't have a subscription either but based on what is provided, my assumption is that this is planned for the block bound by Porche Ave, Elm St, College St, and Perkins St here:

More detail on BMW Training Center. It will be transit accessible.
Quote:
German automaker BMW is hoping to tap into Atlanta’s growing airport area with the announcement of a Technical Training Center in College Park. The development will rise on a 4.1-acre parcel at the Georgia International Convention Center, according to a press release issued this week.

The BMW facility joins a burgeoning campus accessible from the airport via the ATLSkytrain. Earlier this year, the new Renaissance Gateway Hotel opened, and work is underway to build an arena for the Hawks D League team nearby.
