Just that it seems that many other cities have more success in establishing passenger rail than we do.

But maybe that is just my subjective assessment.

Well, yeah, considering that some other cities, particularly in the Northeast, have a far better existing network. We have one train daily in each direction on one Amtrak line.

That, and, even as fickle as it is, much more state support. This State has had a commuter and intercity rail plan for over a decade now. The recession didn't help, but we had one on the books. We have that plan still, as well as the MMPT.

Really, if the state wasn't so passive on the whole thing, we'd have gotten it done, or would be on our way to getting it done.

Amtrak Considering One New And One Old Southern Route | WABE 90.1 FM

Wondering if this would be routed to Doraville or if the MMPT would be ready by then.

It would be the same route as far as Hattiesburg I believe. No effect on its routing through Atlanta.

Amtrak is considering someday running a daily train from Atlanta to Dallas.

They should go for it, since its so hard to get things going Downtown.

Yeah more and more I'm thinking that the over-under for the opening date of the MMPT is in the year 2040.

Who rides Amtrak? I'm asking seriously, as a proponent of rail systems being expanded across the country. The schedules just seem ridiculous. For example, Atlanta to New Orleans is a 12 hour (if it is not delayed) ride. Why the hell does it take so long by train, when driving takes ~7 hours? I'd never choose a $70/way ticket when I could drive for much quicker and much cheaper. I just don't think Amtrak is at all efficient, and I can't see why somebody would choose to use it over flying or driving. Insights? If we're going to expand our rail system, we need high-speed rail. Not the slow speeds of Amtrak.
