We are relocating to the area for a job in Alpharetta off of Route 19 and are looking for a place to rent before we decide to buy a house. I am looking for recommendations of areas to live that would be a maximum of a 30 minute commute from the area. We have two cats, and a three year old and a three month old. We aren't concerned about areas for school quite yet. My cheap ass would love to have a 2+ bedroom for $1000 a month, but looks like we are going to have to spend more to get someplace decent. $1500 would be the max, but I'd love to get something more around $1200. I've looked in Roswell but it seems like there are really bad parts of that area? At least that's what the apartment reviews would have me believe. We are looking to relocate in the next 60 days.

I would appreciate any info on where we should look, as well as any tips about the area, traffic, etc!

Why not rent right in Alpharetta? It's a very desirable area and a lot of the rentals there are pretty new/new build. You could probably find a 2 bdrm there, or just north of Alpharetta, within your budget.

I'm not sure about there being 'bad' parts of Roswell, unless things have changed a lot.

There are definitely poor apartment complexes in Roswell where you'll have to deal with lack of parking, noise, and sketchy neighbors.... but its definitely not dangerous. Many of the complexes in Roswell are very very old.

I'll second what NB9540 posted; rents for 2 BR apartments right in Alpharetta are almost exactly where your budget is. From there, going farther out [away from Atlanta] increases your rent.

BTW, what you are calling route 19 is locally referred to as Georgia 400, or simply, 400.

I cannot think of any reason you want to move to Buford other than family or you found a whole lot of house for a little bit of money. You would be better off in Alpharetta.

Work in Alpharetta? Stay in Alpharetta. Adding way too much to your commute for no gain.

Some days it takes me 30 minutes to get out of Alpharetta in the evenings, so sounds like your max commute only allows you to live in Alpharetta.
