Somebody passed out fliers calling Mayor David Lockhart a racist during a festive occasion in Forest Park Saturday.

“We gave him a chance by voting for him,” the flier reads. “We trusted him to be fair, instead he wants to fight with black leadership.”

The fliers aren’t attributed to anyone and Clayton News hasn’t confirmed who distributed them at Forest Park Day as of press time Friday. Whoever typed the document points out three different instances when Lockhart has voted against black leadership in his two years as mayor.

“He vetoed appointing an African-American female to serve on the URA Board five times,” it reads.

Lockhart told Clayton News he only vetoed that appointment to the URA board because the majority of council had not allowed him to have any appointments to the board, even though state law dictated he should make all the appointments and that council should vote for or against them. That board is made up of three black women and three white men.

Lockhart said the list of appointees he had chosen before council’s interference was more diverse, with black, white and Hispanic residents.

The flier goes on to point out that Lockhart vetoed a vote by councilmembers Maudie McCord, Latresa Akins and Dabouze Antoine to fire long-time solicitor Jerry Patrick — a white man — and replace him with African-American attorney Krystal Holmes in 2014.

The mayor said in past Clayton News articles that he vetoed the vote because he didn’t feel Patrick had done anything to warrant being fired by the Forest Park council. Akins said in a past article that she received complaints about Patrick from an employee who said the solicitor used his 17-year influence to intimidate those around him.e flier also claims Lockhart once said “the word ‘N***** at a prayer breakfast.’” It doesn’t specify where or when, but Lockhart said he suspects it harkens back to litigation he went through when he was first elected. He said two women left fliers outside city hall claiming he had said the word at the National Prayer Breakfast.

Lockhart said he spent the morning at that breakfast with black pastors and ministers.

“Obviously, I didn’t say it there or anywhere,” he said. For more on this issue, follow news-daily.com

Another day in Atlanta, another race thread. Gee, I wonder why we're so divided, apparently people like keeping it that way.

ugh.

Someone took a page formt he former mayor of East Point's playbook. I'm so tired of race-baiting. Because that is what this is.

Mayor Lockhart is an honorable man who is trying to move his city forward. Unfortunately, there are a few city council members who are more interested in promoting their personal agendas.
