This will be my first time watching the parade. I'll be with a couple of other moms and we will have our kids in strollers. Can anyone recommend a good time to arrive to get a spot and some good places from where to watch the parade? Looking for a spot that won't leave us trying to lift our kids over our heads the entire time. Also, how wise is it to drive and try to park near the area? I'm coming a couple of minutes away from Druid Hills and I don't mind a long-ish stroller walk. I'd imagine MARTA likely gets insanely crowded and not even worth attempting to navigate with strollers. Any other tips/suggestions?

parade starts at 10am... so be there by 9am, especially if you have kids in strollers. i suggest take marta, it shouldnt be crowded (yet) at that time. the trip back may be a little more crowded though.

get a good spot by the curb, so that your kids can sit in their strollers while the parade passes them by. the worst part is waiting for the parade to start, but once they roll through, your kids will be entertained.

i also suggest looking for a spot near the start of the parade (near civic center marta), as the peachtree center marta and hotel area is where it is most congested. if it is like past years, you will have a hell of a time with strollers in that area.

Actually, my stroller was the only thing that gave me breathing room and the crowd behind me a line-of-sight to see the parade last year.

Not sure if I'm bringing the young one again this year.

Absolutely suggest riding MARTA. FYI, kids under 48" tall ride for free, use the wide fare gate for kids and strollers. Also, each adult will have to have a BreezeCard with 2 trips on it, please no sharing.
Which direction on MARTA will you be coming from? The parade ends close to North Ave station, so if you use that station, it won't be as crowded.

Look for a spot that will be in shade for as much of the pre-parade & parade time that you are there &, given the forecast, take an umbrella unless the last minute forecast looks rain free.
I've been to the parade twice & will go again down the road so have fun!

I'm thinking about taking some out of town family including two kids in strollers and one 8 year old who will love it. Does anyone know how long the parade lasts?

If you live in Druid Hills, I would suggest taking Uber. I would land a spot between Baker & Andrew Young.

If you are going to get ther by 9:00 there will be plenty of spaces in the parking decks along the parade route. Just find a copy of the route online, and you will be ok. Last year we decided to go last minute on a whim, and did not have much trouble finding parking (--got there via Dekalb Ave--not Ponce) My wife fought for a good spot for our older kids, and I threw our toddler on my shoulders--I was the only one that missed anything, and I didn't do that poorly.

I honestly have no idea about anything MARTA related, I've never had to take it before despite living in Atlanta for several years. Is it like a NYC subway? Do you just buy tickets at the station? I'm in Druid Hills, so I don't know where the closest station would be. I think there is one near Inman Park? I'm going to see if the other moms want to take MARTA, I don't think I'd take it alone. Thanks for your advice!

That's an excellent suggestion! I might actually do that, much easier than figuring out parking and public transportation.
