Re: the library: For some reason, some of TOD "hobbyists" in the area (I say hobbyists because they aren't involved professionally with the project, just interested and knowledgeable about TODs -- the quote marks aren't meant as a slam as they are very well intentioned) are very much against having the library and any other Brookhaven municipal buildings in the MARTA TOD. The reason given was that municipal is not the model of successful TOD.

However, I personally don't see a problem with locating the library (or City Hall or whatever) there as opposed to a separate location. It seems a lot of people who can't afford internet or newspapers etc. would appreciate easy transit access to a library. As would people who need to get to City Hall for business.

Are you guys going to push back against these 2 new projects like what happened to the MARTA TOD plan?

Fulton County Government complex/courthouse, City of Atlanta, State of Georgia, DeKalb County all are very accessible to rail. I think it makes great sense to have government close to transit stations.

Which projects are you referring to? Your quote is talking about MARTA TOD.

But they are a drag on vibrancy in an area. Just look at what they did to South Downtown.

I don't think one library will be bad as part of the Brookhaven TOD. But if they make it mostly government builds it will. Many people people utilize private restaurants, businesses, and homes than government buildings.

I would say if they are built like the federal and state offices that are walled off, yes. But if built for street-level engagement, they could be help the area.

Good point. But what would they engage the street with? A waiting room? Or bring in some private coffee shops / businesses?
