How safe is it for a teenager to walk around Midtown alone? For example - from Grady High School to the Arts Center area or throughout Piedmont Park...

My teenager (girl) walks from Grady, though Piedmont Park, and home to Ansley Park very often. She loves the walk and has never had a problem in the two years she's been doing it. I am perfectly fine with her decision to walk that path - she gets fresh air, exercise, and often times walks with or meets up with friends along the way. So, in my opinion anyway, I consider this a safe and healthy thing for her to do. Hey, perhaps our teens know each other and could be walking buddies!

I forgot to add - we don't currently live in Midtown. We will be moving from Santa Monica to Midtown this summer. My son has so much freedom walking around Santa Monica. We wanted to make sure that he continues with this freedom after we move.

You will love Midtown! It is a great, safe place for anyone to start off in Atlanta.

There are a lot of other neat, walkable neighborhoods around that each have their own character. But Midtown is a great place to start and explore the city first hand.

Will your child attend Grady High?

Confirmed. My daughter loves Grady High - she's involved in theater and soccer, loves her health classes, likes her teachers and has made really good friends with kids from all over the map. Her twin is in a private school in Buckhead, and, I have to say, I think my Grady High girl is receiving the better education of the two in terms of all around education.

Interesting that you've got twins electing to go their own way in high school. Which private school is she attending? My daughter is in private school as well, and I struggle with the all-around education part since the private schools are such a rarified environment. Public schools where we are are a no-go, and hopefully we can move someplace like Midtown soon.
