I agree. The new owners of Southlake are bringing in new stores and revitalizing the mall. As a frequent Macy's shopper, it would be sad to lose the only one on the southside.

Very interesting read. If Macy's didn't have it's name they would have seen more declining sales greater than 1%. When you cut a lot of store services, and hire a staff who knows nothing about clothing or customer service you will see a change.

It's still shocking when you go to Perimeter or even Lenox and ask for styles such as Spread collar, flat front pants or even help finding a belt that is not bonded leather, and the associates have no idea about the difference. Some assoc do, but for the most part, majority don't. And now they will be hiring 50K-80K flex assoc for the holidays who won't do anything to help with the level of service people think of when they hear the name Macy's and being "America's Dept. Store".

Now, IMO the fashion has changed at Macy's. Seems like since Macy's is so large they can put names such as CK, Perry Ellis on clothing that IMO is not really those brands. I have yet to see some of the items Macy's sell in retail stand alone stores. I see more brands like INC, Bar III and other Macy's brands that to me are fashionable but are comparable to the quality of HM or Forever.... But then again we are in the era of Immediate gratification, and with that comes "transactional" fashion.

This just goes to show the changing climate of business. Amazon and the internet will kill 'em. When you get greedy and open more stores than you can handle, you shift from customer service, quality and the customer to paying the bills and having to monitor how many credit cards assoc open.

Heck, Southlake had that set up at one time correct?
When it opened in the early 70s until the opening of Town Center and Gwinnett Place in the mid 80s, I would say that Cumberland was the king of the metro malls. Of course Lenox and Phipps were more upscale, but they weren't what they are today. In contrast it was the everything to everybody mall. It was the first of the double decker/4 anchor malls that had their heyday in the 80s. When Town Center opened and Lenox expanded (along with Perimeter gaining more panache) Cumberland fell in prominence. Never has been a "dead mall" but its glory days were 70s and 80s.

All malls had glory days in the 1970s and 1980s.

I cannot remember the last time I wanted to go to a mall honestly

Confirmation? Sears salesmen aren't usually the final say
