Just wrong.

The Galleria Convention Center wants access to the Braves, their 20 restaurants, and retail that's coming. The Galleria is a huge draw for conventions and they want their visitors to be able to stay at the new Galleria hotel (proposed, not built yet) and walk across the bridge to Braves/restaurants.

Otherwise, they'd be taking the walk of death under 285, or walking the bridge over 41 to the Cumberland restaurants, which are already constantly packed. Not nearly as marketable to conventioneers as having The Battery and the Braves just a short walk away.

Has zero to do w/ Big Chow or Jocks n Jills.

And Connie Engel and the Childress Klein folks have already told the Braves no on using Galleria parking.

Then why did their board not approve the use of it's garage as footings for the bridge and them losing parking spots? Why can't the money for the bridge, be used instead to make the Cobb Pkwy/285 interchange safer for all modes of transportation?

Great question. That intersection plus the 41/Spring Road intersection needs a redesign already, and it will really need one once the Braves move next-door. I'm thinking a DDI (diverging diamond interchange) at 41/285 might help, but there might need to be some wide pedestrian paths and crosswalks through there.

The board hasn't approved it yet because the funding source hasn't been hammered out yet. This bridge will be constructed, probably by first pitch but definitely by the second season.

Construction is funded by the county for this year for the 285 exit onto Cobb Parkway Northbound, there will be a dedicated express lane (might be 2) that that go directly to Windy Ridge (Sun Trust Stadium)

There is no way that bridge will only cost $9.8M.

Yep. That article already mentions other costs that are not included in that $9.8M.

I doubt Tim Lee will ever say it costs anything more than $9.8M but additional money will continue to disappear from other buckets around the county so Lee can save face.
