It's likely that Invest Atlanta will soon sell the Boisfeuillet Jones Civic Center on the border of downtown and the Old Fourth Ward but for a price not everyone is thrilled about. CBS46 reports that Weingarten Realty Investors plans to transform the site into a mixed-use center featuring residences, offices, commercial spaces and restaurants..."

The reason the sale was delayed was because the city wanted a higher price. I think it's proximity to Peachtree-Pine shelter was one issue.

Somewhat related:

I wonder how this effects Shaky Knees Music Festival 2016. I can't imagine they'll be able to host the festival in the same location next year if the Civic Center property is under new ownership.

Welcome to Weingarten Realty Investors

The developer's website isn't inspiring any confidence. Last picture, ok. Everything else is showcasing some of the least inspired retail I have ever seen.

They're a big investor in retail with a huge portfolio. Their projects are generally pretty nicely maintained. They include a lot of standard strip centers.

They were originally a family owned grocery store chain. Eventually the grocery store went out of business, but the real estate end remained.

Is it safe to hope this means the death of the stupid idea they floated to move the Hawks to a new arena on this site?
