Funding for cleanup and pothole repair of bike lanes in Atlanta? That's hilarious. Try riding in the Auburn Ave bike lane (main thoroughfare for heading out of downtown). Very treacherous.

Sounds like Sam Massell and the Buckhead Coalition oppose the bike lanes but not the center turn lane. Interview on WABE this morning. Cited safety.

Give cyclists a lane and it will create a safer corridor for all modes of transportation.

While I agree with you, he mentioned the number of curb cuts into businesses and neighborhoods as one of his top concerns. I can see where that should be a concern. He has sponsored other bike lane projects around town in the past, but believes that the stretch of Peachtree from Brookwood AMTRAK station up to Piedmont Road is just not appropriate. He was concerned with even more bikes on that stretch of Peachtree that there would be more accidents between cars and bikes. Certainly didn't sound anti-bike in the interview - just pro safety.

Wish I could find a link to a recording of the interview.

There is no issue on Ponce, Edgewood Ave, Auburn Ave, Peachtree Center Cycletrack, Hosea L. Williams Dr or any other road with bike lanes.

Cyclists are still going to use Peachtree regardless, and it would definitely be safer for them to have their own lane.

The curb cut issue along that stretch of Peachtree is a whole other mess of crap.

The Buckhead Coalition would be against it even it wasn't about safety. They just want to Peachtree to remain an automobile-oriented corridor...
