So my last trip to Atlanta a few weeks ago at the hotel I hear what kind of sounds like a bleating goat up in the trees at night. I ask the clerk if it is a bird or something and they have no idea.
I also heard it in the trees in Roswell at night and in town in Norcross at night. I even got a recording of it on my ipad. I seached on google for nocturnal animal sounds in atlanta and found nothing.
Can anyone satisfy my curiosity?

Owl maybe? I'm sure someone could tell you if we could hear the sound.

I went online and heard multiple owl sounds. other birds, cicadas, etc. None were close to it.
I wonder if I can post a mp3 of it here?

That crossed my mind, but they have all been from pretty high in the trees

That's a good guess...sometimes tree frogs can sound like a bleating goat.

Try the American Woodcock. That one sounds sort of goatish.

We hear tree frogs all the time at Lake Hartwell in summer. It's often the only thing we hear along with crickets. I can't even think of anything else I hear.

Okay, I found it. It is from a Katydid. The problem is that all the recordings of katydids all sound different. Different species make different sounds from clicks to the bleating goat. Plus the temperature affects the sounds too. I found one page with about 8 different recordings and all except one sounded nothing like what I was hearing. The one that sounded like it was close enough though.
Thanks people.
