But stop acting like Dekalb is numero uno for corruption in Georgia.

The reporting on Dekalb is just bait for hardcore conservatives who are still butthurt that they don't rule in Dekalb like their parents & grandparents did before the 60s/70s.

Because the same sort of corruption is going on now at the Gold Dome and no one saying much of anything about that anymore. No visceral over-the-top outrage there.

Small wonder on that one...
How many counties have two of their commissioners/executives in jail and 5 more under investigation? How many have had their school board removed? How many have a former school superintendent convicted?

WE'RE #1! WE'RE #1!

I can live with that answer.

I just wish those people would admit their bias...and stop trying to low-key defend the status quo by deflecting from state government corruption.

It's too obvious.
The state capitol is hardly pristine, but its nothing like our counties.

When the state has as many criminal investigations as a single county, you can talk. As it is, you just sound ridiculously biased.

Sounds like a statement pulled straight out of the sphincter. No logic what-so-ever.

Well I know it won't be Sam Olens that does it. He has his nose clearly up Deal's butt. But at least he is smart enough not to crap on the top leadership in Georgia State Republican politics.

Now Dekalb District Attorney Robert James? Clearly a moron.

Don't know what that guy is snorting.

I never claimed to be neutral. And you really don't have much else of salience to say at this point, do you?

Another racial apologist for the rampant Dekalb corruption. At least this one is able to make full sentences, quite refreshing.

Defending politicans in Dekalb (or any color skin) because of perceived corruption elsewhere only enables this den of thieves.

That's the reason it's very hard to end corruption in Dekalb county. The corrupt leaders don't think they are doing anything wrong, they are encouraged by leaders in their community. It was sad to see former Atlanta Mayor Andy Young, a prominent Civil Rights Movement leader, testify in favor of convicted DeKalb 'CEO' Ellis.

I happen to think that DeKalb's corruption is generations deep. So, there was ample corruption when DeKalb was majority white. What changed was the impact of that corruption, perhaps?

I believe that the many of the private entities based in DeKalb thrive off the corruption and thus, support candidates/elected officials who will protect the status quo.

Well, I think a good chunk of the permissiveness of folks looking the other way within DeKalb has to do with the hardening of attitudes that came with decades of Federally imposed integration. Folks have been trying to grab/hold-on-to power along racial lines forever.--I think that the attitude has been "he may be a crook, but at least he's our crook."
My memory of DeKalb during the 70s and 80s is just so-so (I was just a kid then), but I would guess that when the politicians were predominantly white, there was just a lot more money to throw around and the county had enormous growth, so it wasn't missed as much, and (at least in the white areas) the schools were good. Also, in the digital age, it is a lot harder to hide even small misuse of funds.

It is ironic, given the deep corruption at the state level, to hear Georgia state politicians try to make DeKalb County their whipping boy. And FFS we're only talking about one DeKalb official here. Anybody know how many other officials this report investigated?
