If you are still under warranty you should call the xbox people direct and they will send you an empty box to put it in, send it back and they will do the repairs. my husband is just waiting for his to get back

correct... try going to some forums if it's out of warranty.

There's a few tricks to extend the life, but none of them are fixes. Also be aware of buying an unsealed xbox online, meaning someone else already had problems with theirs, or it's chipped

I've fixed an xbox that had an RROD before. It wasn't to hard to do. It just takes a little patience to figure it out. It was overheating because of the crappy X shaped heat sink clamp and the really sub-par thermal paste they used in the original production. Really the hardest part was getting on of the plastic side panels off. I cleaned the old paste off with some contact fluid and cue tips. I replaced it with Arctic 5. There's a guide to do it if you're interested, I'll find it for you. Just let me know.
