Definitely Bucky and northward with the blondies that would satisfy your majority white requirement .

I see that Decatur is roughly 6 miles from where my job will be. That's not too far for a bicycle commute -- does anyone have any experience commuting from Decatur to midtown via bicycle? Or is that just not possible given the way the roads are setup?
The Stone Mountain Trail runs along McClendon and Candler Park/Freedom Parkway. From there you could take side streets up to midtown depending on where in midtown you were. Another alternative coming from midtown, there is also 10th street and Virginia where you could ride and meander through Druid Hills and take side streets to Decatur. From Clifton to Lullwater, you would have to use North Decatur or Ponce de Leon which aren't good for bikes, but that's only about 1/4 mile (and there are sidewalks). However, there ARE substantial hills on the latter route.

I do see people riding occasionally on North Decatur from Oxford to Briarcliff or Clifton to Scott St. and on Ponce de Leon and on Briarcliff (runs north south), but I think those people are nuts.

Thanks - I guess I was overlooking "Bucky" but might as well check it out. Will need to take a closer look at the schools though.

Thanks, I guess it's a possibility during a few months of the year. Distance-wise it's not that bad, but I wasn't factoring in much for hills.

Ah, OK - thanks! I read somewhere that 30030 was the ZIP code to focus on, but from your comment it seems that when it comes to ensuring you're inside the Decatur school district you need to meet both of the following two conditions: (a) be inside of the city limits of Decatur AND (b) be inside the 30030 zip code. I'll keep my eye out for that.

I think it's the case that everywhere in the city limits of Decatur has a 30030 zip code, but every place with a 30030 zip code is not in the city limits. This map is pretty recent and breaks it down on a lot by lot level, but of course you'd want to verify with the city or school system before buying a place:

Feel free to PM me if you have a question about an area or street.

Decatur
Any neighborhood in the Grady Cluster; School Zones / School Zone Boundary Maps
Sandy Springs
Dunwoody
All those listed above are accessible to Peachtree and 12th/13th via MARTA.

I'd give it a year before you decide to move back to the NE.

Brookwood Hills is out of OP's price range--there may be one or two houses there in the $800k ballpark but they flood.

Consider the North Atlanta HS area, especially Sarah Smith elem.) stay away from Dekalb (except for Decatur)
