The amount of women I see driving 60-70 mph on 285 while trying to do their makeup at the same time while trying to merge or get off at GA 400 interchange it very frightening, but I see it all the time. The amount of people texting with TWO hands is getting crazy as well.

There will always be distracted drivers, but Georgia's major freeways are simply badly designed. They force drivers to weave constantly as the number of through travel lanes shifts. I'd like to see our freeways more closely patrolled by police, not for speeding, but for failures to yield and failures to signal when changing lanes. I think those are the two most dangerous things Georgia drivers do on the Connector and other local freeways.

No, not really. 1 interchange will not solve an entire corridor's issues.

I had to make a round trip visit to 1-285 in the rain yesterday.
The trip back home after sunset last night was particularly stressful.
I am lucky enough to rarely be on I-285 at all but I can foresee the day when I will absolutely refuse to drive on it for any reason.
20 years ago I used to chuckle over a co-workers refusal to commute in and out of the COA via any of the freeways. She simply used arterial highways instead.
Now, looking back & with numerous interim experiences under my belt, I can totally understand her sentiment although I'm not yet exactly to that same perspective.

Solve all the issues? No.

Make a huge positive impact? Absolutely.

As you can see from the map, there have only been 2 crashes involving fatalities at the interchange. 1 was a DUI the other distracted driving, causes that $1B worth of work will not change because these causes are human behavior. Try again.

I've always had to be extra careful on 285. This was even though I was only coming up from Fayetteville, driving a short section of 75, and using the 238A interchange to drive a short section of 285 to 20. It always feels more treacherous. Just the sake of it being the perimeter interstate makes it feel that way.
