That's Gulch's language, not mine.

Of course they can. Cyclists can continue to ride on Peachtree if they want to but it's so narrow and so heavily traveled that it's not an ideal bike route. That's why this alternative will help.

While adding a MUP bridge will help, this project does nothing to help in providing a safe alternative to Peachtree Rd. That price will only pay for the bridge and connecting trail itself.

I wonder what a better way to approach this would be, so that you don't get into that kind of unnecessary conflict?

There was quite a bit of support for bike lanes south of Peachtree Battle from the neighborhoods in that area (Ardmore and Brookwood). If I'm not mistaken Brookwood has them in their master plan and I believe Ardmore was in favor as well.

Don't frame it as a bikes vs. cars argument.

Exactly, it was originally a safety and operational improvement project for vehicles that would have yielded enough extra room to add 2-4' bike lanes.

I agree with you and Gulch but it sounds like GDOT let the discussion get off track. As I recall the CID also came out in favor of the bike lanes.

I'm sorry, but this is absolute crap. I attended one of the public meetings for the project and the GDOT engineers present did a very good job explaining the project. It was the idiot Buckhead residents that were screaming (yes screaming) "Peachtree should only be for cars." Sadly, politics won out over safety.

Well, I went to the big GDOT meeting at Piedmont and there was no screaming at all.

And the CID did come out in favor of the bike lanes. Peachtree Road Corridor
