We have lived in the Atlanta metro area for over 30 years off and on . Johns Creek, Peachtree Corners, Newnan and now the north Paulding area. We live in the Cedarcrest area near Cobb Parkway and have a Dallas address even though I never go into Dallas. We tend to shop in Acworth, Marietta. It all runs together. you will definitelly get more for your money here and to the point, our house in Cobb would be 100,000 more. With retirement that is alot to us. I believe drugs are everywhere and no worse here than other places. The real issue is your commute! Traffic is definitely better on this side of town as opposed to Johns Creek but we find it manageable

Agreed. This is always one of the best bits of advice we give people who are new to the area and taking a job here. Rent in the area you're interested in FIRST - many apartment complexes have 3-15 month leases available. You can then decide if the area and the commute are worth investing in a house there.

The prospect of moving twice may not sound pleasant to most folks, but once you are in this area and deal with the long list of things involved in living here, you'll more fully understand that it's worth the extra hassle before planting roots that may be hard to pull up later.

I live in the Dallas/Acworth area and it all depends on where you live. If you are concerned about schools I will say Cobb is better, but there are some really good Paulding County schools. My kids go to Shelton Elementary and Sammy McClure Middle and will go to North Paulding High. We have been very happy with Shelton and extremely happy with McClure. Look in the 30132 area of Dallas, not 30157. That will put you in the Seven Hills area and 30101 will put you in the Bentwater area. Some of 30101 is also Cobb County. You definitely can get more house for your money in Paulding County and both Seven Hills and Bentwater have some great homes. Burnt Hickory Elementary is also good. I think some of what you have heard about Dallas are stories from "the other side of the tracks" so to speak. I think if you concentrate your search in North Paulding you may find something you like.
