Liberty Media plans new Braves stock | www.ajc.com

Oh, my. I wonder who is going to rush to the broker to put in an order to purchase Braves' stock? I think I'll hold out on this offering!

"Liberty Media, the Braves’ publicly traded owner, said today it will create a new tracking stock for the baseball team.

Such stocks trade as separate securities to the rest of the company, allowing investors to buy and sell shares that reflect the financial performance of specific businesses.

A tracking stock called “Liberty Braves Group” will include the Braves “and certain assets and liabilities associated with the … (team’s) stadium and mixed use development project, cash and a note obligation in the amount of approximately $165 million from the Liberty Braves Group to the Liberty Media Group relating to funds borrowed and used for investment in the development project,” Liberty Media said."

I know the Packers do this, but I thought usually it was Euro Soccer clubs that did this sort of thing. I really can't think of another MLB ream that does this. I'm interested in seeing how this pans out. If it allows them to open up the wallet and get some talent then I'm all for it.

The Packers aren't owned by a multi-billion dollar company.

This would've been better if it was replacing the funding the Braves screwed out of Cobb County taxpayers.

Did the Cleveland Indians launch an initial public offering in 1998?

You're right. They're owned by the citizens of Green Bay or something like that. But they do have stock, no clue how that works but I'm sure of that. I've seen there stock for sale online before. Outside of them I don't think any pro team in the US does it

Not sure. In 98 I was a kid. Probably would have thought an IPO was a new rap group
