"They have great studios there and it’s cheaper to build a New York set in Georgia than it is to shoot (in New York)." -- TOM HOLLAND, Marvel's next "Spider Man"

THIS IS ABSOLUTELY HUGE! Not just for Pinewood and Fayette County, but Atlanta's status as THE go-to place for BIG BUDGET MOVIES that used to film in LA or NYC without question. And there's few as big as THIS! The last Spidey flick in 2011 had an estimated budget of $240 million. This could very well be the BIGGEST movie project the state has ever seen (surpassing last year's Ant-Man). Marvel's partnership with Pinewood will guarantee 2-3 blockbuster productions every year for the next 10 years! That's a couple of billion dollars folks over the long-haul folks!

They're still making Spider Man movies?

Not taking away from how big this is, I just thought they'd let that franchise have a little breather.

Do you think this will be bigger than Guardians of the Galaxy 2?

At this point, every movie Marvel makes is bigger than the last. Who knows? But I do think "Spider Man" has more mass appeal than "Guardians of the Galaxy," especially with the younger set.

There's a SERIOUS shortage of high-end rental housing for all these film industry people working down there. They better hurry up and get going on the Pinewood Village live / work / play development across from the studio -- 700 lofts and cottage homes, retail, restaurants, 2 boutique hotels, a concert pavilion, public spaces, walking trails and nature preserve directly linked to the studio by cart / bike paths via tunnels and bridges. And that's just phase one. (The studio itself is only half built as well, they will add another 12 sound stages over the next two years).

They finally broke ground on this in downtown Fayettevillle last week:

Do you have a link for the Pinewood Village development?

The way I understand it, Sony must keep making Spider Man movies or they lose the rights. Which is to say, the rights revert back to Marvel (which is owned by Disney).

This is why, every 3 years or so, we see a new Spider Man reboot. This current one looks like a joint-production between Sony and Marvel. And, unlike the previous ones, it will not be an origin story.

But I hear you about the breather. As far as I'm concerned they can take an indefinite hiatus on ALL superhero movies.

Still, it's great news for Atlanta! Among Marvel movies, I think this makes 3, after AntMan and the new Captain America: Civil War.

That's 4, with Guardians of the Galaxy 2 in pre-production now and shooting in February.
