This is a perfect location for a multilane roundabout

Drivers: Piedmont Road Traffic Changes are Awful - Everybody Panic - Curbed Atlanta
Quote:
It appears that the Cheshire Bridge corridor is experiencing Traffic Armageddon, following changes to the intersection at Piedmont Road. Lane alterations were made in anticipation of new traffic volumes resulting from Modera Morningside, a mixed-use venture by Fuqua Development and Mill Creek residential. What's ensued sounds like the Godzilla of all bottlenecks.

In order to provide a left turn lane into the mixed-use center, developers added a median to the leftmost lane on Cheshire Bridge Road. Now, there is only one dedicated northbound lane at the intersection, which alarmed commuters say has created rush-hour bottlenecks and accidents due to drivers trying to jump lanes.

That's always been one of the most disastrous intersections in the city.

I think you're right, a roundabout would be a good solution. But is there room for one?

Its not really that bad (although its has gotten worse since the developers were allowed to close a northbound lane). LaVista at Cheshire Bridge is much worse.

That's a slew of accidents waiting to happen. I think I am most amused that there are only around a dozen cars at the intercircle. What day was that?

Somehow they work all over the world and Cobb County is planning for one soon.

The potential crashes that result in roundabouts are of less danger because there is no right-angles. The most serve crashes result from left with thru's and right angles, while rear ends and sideswipes result in fewer injuries. Roundabouts also have less conflict points than a traditional signal or stop sign.
Roundabouts are a new concept to the US, but the data from decades of use around the world has shown they are safer and result in far less crashes than traditional signalized intersections.

I don't know what it is with me and traffic but I rarely have a problem at Piedmont and Cheshire bridge.

As to a roundabout, if it slows people down I am for it.

Of course it slows people down, as they cannot speed thru it like they can a yellow signal.
