There's a few Paneras around, but as someone else said, Atlanta Bread Co is better and easier to find. Wendys is all over, just like McD's, BK, etc. We also have Sonic (which beats them all) and Arby's. There's really nothing that we "miss" down here- everyone complains about not finding good bagels and pizza (though we've found both), but neither of those things was such a necessity that I couldn't live without them anyway.
We love living down here- we around 35 miles from downtown, a little out in the sticks but still close enough to find everything we want/need. My commute isn't too painful because I go in early and leave early, but for someone who works 9-5, it'd be as bad as an NJ/NYC commute. What we bought for $300k would easily be $800k in central NJ, would have 1/2 the land, and 3-4 times the taxes. And don't worry about the whole "they don't like Yankees/Northerners down there" bit- I've met some of the nicest people ever since moving here, and my wife has actually made some "normal" friends for the first time....lol.

Yes, she should. But if she wants to be in Downtown Decatur (by far my favorite part of the city, BTW), then she'll be looking at condos in that price range unless she can find a teeny tiny little house.

I personally could do either - house in Winnona Park or townhouse near Decatur Square.
Is there a place to take pets near the Square? I don't have dogs so I never worry about that but a lot of people do. Dog parks or dog-friendly parks can be an important consideration when deciding if you want to do condo/townhouse with no yard or house with yard in Winnona Park.

So no regrets then : )) Alot of the people chatting in the NJ Threads who have moved away from NJ sound so sad..appear to regret ever leaving NJ. I started my GA search in areas around Atlanta..there are some great new homes and I still can't believe the prices. I live out in the sticks now..not to say I don't love it, but it would be nice to be close to everything again and Decatur sounds like the perfect place. Nice to hear that they don't hate Northerners : )) How about the Scottish..lol : ))

Most of the South has a strong Celtic past. There's an annual Scottish games at Stone Mountain just outside the city.
FYI, the book "Cracker Culture" is about Celtic influences on southern culture.

Yeah, if someone has a Scottish or Irish accent they're instantly loved. A lot of times people around here couldn't tell the difference between the two so you might want to prepare your Scots for that!

I did see a few new const. in Decatur in my price range but now I'm seeing that Decatur and Downtown Decatur are different species? As long as I can walk to shops... get a good cup of Jo and a bite to eat.... either will do. Oh, but not a Townhouse or Condo...did that once before and hated it. I'd like a bit of a yard...some privacy.

PERFECT! Do the Scottish Games include "tossing the Caber"...lol. As long as they can get their "chips", they'll be happy... Fish and Chips...Egg and Chip...Chip Butties (which is pretty gross..french fries on buttered bread). Thank you for your responses.... they have been very useful.
