I just moved to Atlanta and I'm confused about Atlanta recycling. I can't seem to find the answer I'm looking for online so hopefully someone can help! I just moved to a place in Midtown and our building has green recycling bins. What can go in these bins? Does Atlanta have single-stream recycling, where you can put metals, plastics and papers all together in one bin?

Thanks!

Here is the FAQ for Atlanta recycling

Do you actually live in the City of Atlanta - note that the recycling programs are different depending on who is you waste management company. For example, in some metro cities it is provided by the city but in some of the counties, the homeowner individually contracts with a company

Yes, I live in Midtown on 10th right across from Piedmont Park. I'm confused because our bins are green.

The building must have a contractor pick up the recycle, not the city because CoA has blue bins.

Do the bins have the name of the company on it? If so, you'll want to contact them, otherwise ask your apartment manager. (Btw welcome to Atlanta!)

The COA blue bins are for curbside pickup - as the FAQ notes, you should contact your property manager.

Perhaps the green bins are just a smaller option that is given to multifamily units

My apartment complex (over 200 apartments) only has a few recycling bins. Residents use these bins for regular trash and I'm not able to recycle. Are there any suggestions on how to start our complex recycling?

I'd contact William Anderson in the Mayor's office of sustainability.

I'm sure they'd be glad to come out and help your building get started on a recycling program.
