We are in the home stretch for picking an area to relocate our family back to Atlanta area. We found 2 houses that we love one in the Snellville - Brookwood school district and the other in Suwanee - Peachtree Ridge school district. We have 2 small kids so schools are very important to our final decision. My husband will be working downtown and we can see that the commute is about the same 1 hr timeframe from either location. I am more familiar with Snellville and leaning towards that area (124 and Webb Gin Rd.). I worked in Suwanee back in 2000 so not sure how it is now 15 years later. Both have pros and cons but was wondering if anyone could provide feedback about either or both areas.
Thanks!!

Can't go wrong with Ptree Ridge or Brookwood. Brookwood has been the top traditional school in Gwinnett for awhile though I think North Gwinnett has maybe surpassed it for this year. Still, you're splitting hairs at that point. Ptree Ridge does a block schedule so that's something to keep in mind. Suwanee has probably only gotten better since 2000. Both areas have continued to see growth. My family moved from Lilburn to Snellville in 98 when I started 1st grade at Craig Elementary. I've seen a lot of additions in shops to Scenic Hwy and elsewhere and they're still building.

Commute wise, I personally hate being so far off the freeway. Takes me 15 minutes when lucky to over 20. BUT, there is an advantage in the morning. From Suwanee you'll be stuck in traffic starting at 316. For me, I don't get on 85 until Beaver Ruin so I miss some of that traffic. Afternoon is typically a wash, 85 really clears up after Beaver Ruin except for a wreck.

The cities really are quite similar, so your curiosity makes sense. Both offer a great quality of life for their residents with free concerts, movies, fairs, shopping, libraries and more.

Suwanee
• Safety: Municipal police department, CodeRED Weather Alert System
• More parks near Peachtree Ridge: Bunten Road, Church Street, McDaniel Farm, Peachtree Ridge, Suwanee Creek Park
• Suwanee Creek Greenway
• More centrally located in Gwinnett for easier access to Mall of Georgia, Sugarloaf Mills, pro sports
• Unique stores nearby: The Fresh Market

Snellville
• Safety: Eastside Medical Center, municipal police department, CodeRED Weather Alert System
• Mass transit options
• Parks: Alexander, Ronald Reagan, South Gwinnett
• Great dining and shopping destinations along Highways 124 and 78
• Unique stores nearby: Sprouts Farmers Market, Gander Mountain

I don't know that much about Snellville, but I like the fact that Suwanee has neighboring communities with a lot to offer if what you're looking for doesn't exist in Suwanee itself.

It's easy to get to Duluth, Johns Creek, and Buford....in fact, these butt up directly to it. I just feel like those are better communities to neighbor than Grayson, Lilburn, and Lawrenceville...but I'm admittedly ignorant to everything those communities offer.

i'm sure you already know this, but thought it was worth a mention. the I-85 has the express lane option with the peachtree pass, which (in my admittedly limited experience, just testing it out) significantly cuts down that commute into town. this can be expensive, but free if you have an exempt car. we are also considering the suwanee area with an intown commute.
