An apartment project that could mean big changes for a popular Buckhead restaurant is taking another step today.
Phoenix, Ariz.-based Alliance Residential Co. will present plans for the development along Irby Avenue and Cains Hill Place.Alliance will make the presentation to a Buckhead Development Review Committee.
Atlanta Business Chronicle reported last year the project was in its earliest stages. It would mean Buckhead’s long-time Henri’s Bakery and Cafe could be relocated temporarily to another location during the project’s construction. Architect The Preston Partnership LLC is designing the 12-story apartment building.
Henri’s would later reopen on the ground floor of the apartment building once it’s completed.

The development underscores the rapid changes on the western side of the Buckhead Village, a collection of older low-rise buildings that spread out beneath much larger newer developments such as the St. Regis Atlanta hotel and residences.

nice building, but it's too bad that corner of buckhead has to change. There's a scale to it and some character that's going to be erased into another block of generic apartments etc.

That corner is horrible pedestrian experience, as there are little to no sidewalks, surface lots everywhere and having to dodge cars.

I wonder where Henri's will relocate while the building is being built?

While this new location offers several advantages, one of which is a beautiful, outdoor patio, it had one major downfall.

Rooftop signs were prohibited.

Anthony DiNardo, Henri Fiscus’s grandson, worked with City Councilwoman Yolanda Adrean and Herbert Ames, the vice president for the Southeast at Edens, the company redeveloping Andrews Square, in order to create an exception for this historic sign.

Adrean introduced an ordinance to allow “historic iconic signs” in the Buckhead Village so that the Henri’s sign could move with the bakery to its new location, and it was passed.

That wasn't my point.

I tend to agree. I'd rather see that area kept to 'village' scale, but too late for that I suppose.

I'm glad they have capped building heights at a reasonable level and mandated good sidewalks and active uses at the street.

I've actually thought that area was inappropriately low density. Across the street in two directions are high rise office buildings and hotels. But it would be a shame to lose Henri's.
