With regards to current complaints about traffic and crime, are any of these things being addressed in the political arena in terms of improving Atlanta's future? Are there news articles about what they plan on doing to alleviate traffic in the cities and suburbs? Are they widening streets and improving highways anytime soon? Do the politicians who are allowing crime and traffic to escalate have many more years in office? What types of changes are in the works? Where do you see Atlanta and it's suburbs in 10 years?

Atlanta is kindda in limbo.
Air quality doesn't meet EPA/EPD standards- so theres little or no federal funds. Translation- no major improvements. Yes, there is some improvement being made here and there- but it's not a jugernaut. I don't think Atlanta or the metro area has ever gotten ahead of the curve, or will when it comes to the traffic situation.
There has been talk for yrs and yrs about adding to, and/or upgrading public transportation but, the unwillingness of taxpayers to pay for it keeps it on the drawing- board.
Crime falls under the same shortcomings- Lack of tax dollars to hire and train more officers. Then again, there could be plenty of tax dollars and it is being mismanaged (that I believe)- Shirley Franklin just anounced earlier this week that the city of Atlanta has a budget deficit of tens of millions.

Actually yes, I was born and raised in Los Angeles. Yikes!!!!

I just can't believe that the government isn't taking care of these issues. It's ridiculous! No new airport? No plans to widen roads? Leaving people to defend themselves on the street? Hard to believe this is the 21st century...

That's what happens when a government mixes arrogance and incompetence with an incredible lack of foresight. Atlanta's biggest troubles are just ahead of it.

I got out because I saw all of this coming. I loved that town once upon a time, but it just turned into a disheveled monster I could no longer deal with. Shame.

^All I can say is that life up in Petoskey must be very, very dull. Snowed in at the moment, are we? You seem to take great glee in these continual gloom and doom posts.

I'm really glad you got out since you seem to hate this place so much. I think we get it already.

SoFlaMom - Believe it or not, crime & traffic where you live is much, much worse than here. This place in no way resembles what Northman would have you believe.

God I hope not. How many lanes on I-85 goe through downtown? 8 on each side?

What we need is rail, rail, and more rail.

Just exercising my right to free speech and discussion, John. Sorry it offends you so much, but I'm not gonna stop posting because you don't like me. I feel I have relevant opinions to offer after living in Atlanta for 20 years......isn't this site all about discussion and differing points of view?

And you can poke fun at Petoskey all you want, but I've never been happier since I left Atlanta and moved here. Take that for what you will.
