What's new with the drought? (Atlanta: environment, health, house)

So what's new with the drought situation? Have the recent rains raised the levels of Lake Lanier? Are people developing better water habits?

LAst I heard things aren't out of the woods yet. The recent alleviation in danger was mostly due to the Army Corp not releasing as much water downstream. But this is pretty much over and we need an active but mild hurricane season to save us....and plans to water the area the same way OTHER drought prone areas are.

Or places like Manhattan that have no natural fresh water source....

No, but lately the water level has been stable. All other lakes in Georgia are at their winter pool level or above. We just don't use much water from other lakes.

Atlanta’s current drought did not begin a few days or a few weeks ago. Various drought events throughout the state since spring 2006 combined with a lack of efficient water use habits helped bring the state to where it is today. Water Conservation (Indoors and Outdoors) Cannot Be Overemphasized! Conserving water temporarily, then returning to inefficient water use habits will not help alleviate the situation. Water conservation must become a way of life for all Georgians, according to officials with the state’s Drought Response Unified Command (DRUC). I believe Americans need to wake up and realize that the resources are not endless and that the continued increase of population requires new ways of thinking, especially if we want our kids and grandkids to be able to live in a healthy environment. If we continue to WASTE, everybody will suffer, as well as our economy and health. The Earth does not have endless resources and cannot be replaced.
If you want to take a first step, replace your toilets with Dual Flush models, saving precious drinking water - there is no need to flush down 1.6 Gallons or more with every bathroom visit (The toilet accounts for 20% - 25% of all household’s water use). On an average of 5 uses a day per person, these save an additional 1.6 gallons per person per day over the widely advertised 1.28 GPF low-flow toilets.
