Pay it and thank your lucky stars that you didn't injure or kill someone.

This is a very light penalty for driving like that.

I think that is the stretch of 285 where the speed limit signs change based on the conditions. It could range from 35 to 65 depending on traffic. 55 or 65 is the norm outside of rush hour.

90 in a 55 is definitely flying for no reason. However, when there is no traffic on 285, 80-90+ is not that uncommon. There have been plenty of times where I have been doing about 80 on 285 and have had cars tailgate me or blow by me as if I were standing still.

As far as your ticket goes, just pay it. I am not qualified to give legal advice, but from my personal experience it is best to just pay the darn thing and move on. Unless you feel like paying for one of those ticket lawyers, I can't think of a legitimate defense that would get you out of a ticket like that. The court/solicitor may be willing to work with you if you were doing less than 85, but from what I have seen they don't cut a lot of slack to superspeeders.

That stretch of 285 has the variable speed signs. Saw one recently that said 35 which is funny since traffic wasn't moving at all. 35 would have been great at that point.

I was wondering if anyone could give me any more tips for tackling this citation? Maybe whether I should plead nolo vs. pleading guilty, or looking at other options/avoiding it altogether? Any relevant experiences here? Thanks.
Careless, my big ole butt. You could have killed someone. Pay up.

I agree. Nobody goes 90 mph by accident. That's pedal to the metal driving.
