In the NE quadrant of the city:

Midtown - walk to shops, restaurants, Piedmont Park, Fox Theatre, High Museum, MARTA rail

Virginia-Highland - walk to shops, cafes, clubs, and multiple parks including Piedmont Park

Downtown Decatur - Mayberry-like small town 10 minutes from Downtown Atlanta w/MARTA rail station underneath the courthouse square

Candler Park - walk to Candler Park and Little 5 Points business districts, Candler Park (with golf course, swimming pool, etc.), and MARTA rail

Inman Park - walk to Little 5 Points and MARTA rail

Druid Hills - walk to Emory Village and Emory University

Be aware that the most "walkable" areas (i.e., neighborhood business districts and parks) are also generally among the most expensive neighborhoods.

Here's a link to a walkability score web site that shows where businesses and other amenities are located in relation to any given address:

Walk Score - Helping homebuyers, renters, and real estate agents find houses and apartments in great neighborhoods.
