Express lanes having a big impact (Atlanta, Kennesaw: home, buses, train)

Looks the new express lanes on the NW Corridor are having a major effect. And it's not just the people in the toll lanes.

Some people report saving 45 minutes on their commute.

And they've had to adjust the schedule for Xpress buses using the new lanes because they are getting there too early.

GDOT says the average speed on I-75 northbound from I-285 to I-575 at afternoon rush hour’s peak was 40 mph in April – twice the speed from April 2018, before the new lanes opened. GDOT also says rush hour has been reduced by an hour in the morning and in the afternoon.

I like the express lanes(I'm not a peach pass holder though, not yet at least), my afternoon 40 mile commute from Dekalb to my North Cobb home, leaving Dekalb at 3pm is now around 60 or so minutes average. Before it was more 70+ average. And most times I couldn't take 75, I would have to take Powers Ferry up and zig zag my way up to 41, and then another 25 or so minutes to get to my home in Kennesaw.

Express lanes has helped a good deal, I-75 runs a lot smoother for those traveling and commuting NW metro.

How are you using the toll lanes if you don't have a Peach Pass? It's quite obvious that one is required; "Peach Pass Required" is the message most often displayed on the LED signs over the highway. Edit: Perhaps I misunderstood and that you're just sticking to the main, non-tolled I-75 lanes, and are noticing an improvement there? Apologies for any confusion.

That aside, yes, the toll lanes have made a huge, positive difference. And yes, the corridor still needs rail, but I think it needed this as well. To alleviate congestion, we need a multipronged approach.

I've been looking at Google Maps traffic every so often for Atlanta. Every time I've looked at I 75 in Cobb it's been much much better than 400 and I-85. Huge difference.

You guys are sadly mistaken. Adding lanes does not improve traffic flow and allow for more volume to be moved on a road. I know that for a fact because I've heard this lecture many times.

I say this all the time,and maybe someday it will change, but 75 from 120 down to the connector is almost always free flowing no matter the time of day
