Hello you guys!

I am anticipating relocating to either Atlanta, Dallas, or Houston this summer (wherever a job is offered first). I have 2 yr old twin boys and need to know, on average, how much I'll be paying in childcare. I live in Memphis right now and am pay $170 a wk. I'm posting this in all three threads so for those of you who know, just answer according to your city. Thanks a bunch!

That sounds comparable. What part of Atlanta are you moving to, city or burbs?

I was paying about 130/wk at a place in Lawrenceville. Then 175/wk in the city for a slightly older child.

It really depends on whether you're talking about in-home daycare, a nanny, or a child care center. It will also vary according to location and accreditation. I pay $220/week for a 2-year-old in a NAEYC-accredited center intown. Sometimes, getting a spot off the waitlist is the hardest part!

We pay $225 for a 4 year old and $245 for a 2 year old. Most decent places have waiting lists................normally.

Don't choose based on price.

Default Childcare Cost: Please Advise

I live in the North Fulton area and pay $885 per month for a toddler at the Goddard school. That rate is fairly standard for a school/center like Goddard in this area. When I was researching in-home centers, I found the rates to be lower but there is a great deal of variation when it comes to what is provided in an in-home center and back-up day care when the provider isn't available can be frustrating.

I thought it might be together-- Memphis, in many ways, is much cheaper that ATL especially when it comes to services-- lower base salaries, etc.

You aren't going to find quality care for that price here -- sorry.

Well, perhaps you find a non-English speaking sitter....I'm not trying to be ugly. Everyone I know who pays <100/wk is doing just this.

Even when I lived in Athens, GA (briefly) I paid 105/wk for my then 1 year old.... The closer to the city you live the prices go up.

Good luck.
