It's starting to be too much to ask to be a fan of Atlanta sports. At some point, you have to start winning championships. Instead, we get historic chokes and almost-but-not-quite teams almost every time. The 1995 World Series win really seems like a fluke at this point. This is why I haven't invested that much time in an Atlanta team since the early 2000s. There's just way too much disappointment. That's not fun.

Tough way to lose guys. I know the heartbreak feeling of losing a close Super Bowl- it just eats at you as a fan.

Falcons have a young team and should be very good again next year.

Default Now that I've recovered mentally

I'll say this. We knew this team was in a rebuild after Mike Smith left. The fact that they made it to the Super Bowl and minus some bad play calling could have won it is remarkable and far exceeded expectations. We know what this defense is about. Regardless of yards or scores they balled out being on the field for 3/4 of the game. If I'm Quinn and company, I go out and sign the best defensive linemen in free agency and draft the best pass rusher. Offense will only take us so far. Let's just win it with the number 1 defense next year.

Carolina wasn't starting 4 rookies on defense. They had established vets, so naturally they would regress. Atlanta's offense will take a step back but they'll still be a top 5 unit. The defense with this experience and another draft/free agency could be a top 10 unit in yards and points allowed which means next years Falcons could be even better since they won't have to score over 30 a game to win.

Carolina doesn't have the elite tandem of Matt Ryan and Julio Jones.

The Falcons were, by far, the biggest upset story of the NFL 2016 season. No one expected greatness from them. In fact, they were picked to finish dead last in their own division!

2016 NFL schedule - Season predictions, analysis, regular season picks, games

They were never expected to make the playoffs. Yet, they made the Super Bowl. Of all the teams that made the playoffs this year, they were the only ones who were predicted by ESPN to have a losing season (7-9).

I recall seeing other outlets that predicted them to do even worse, like 5-11.

In light of expectations at the start of this season, the Falcons were amazing.

(it still hurts though)
