In my opinion most of this trap music is garbage, and it doesn't represent the culture of hip-hop. I say that not because of the subject matter, because hip-hop is a street culture and hip-hop music is supposed to represent the good, the bad and the ugly of the streets. I think it's garbage because hip-hop music is supposed to be about lyrical skill, and most of these new cats have none. Young Jeezy is the MC who originated trap music, and Jeezy and even T.I. are real MCs and lyrically dope. The rest of these new trap cats mentioned are straight trash. Although a hip-hop head since the 70s I am no means a MC, so if I hear a song that I feel I could have written, then it sucks. Currently music is about catering to the lowest common denominator so I do realize a lot of MCs dumb down there lyrics to feed the masses of 85s out here, so I try not to knock there hustle but they are not getting any of my paper.

Hip Hop was not originally about lyrical skill. The first hip hop tracks didn't spit fire.

Its the cool thing right now. Im looking forward to the day that sort of music is regulated to the ghetto ears its intended for. Im getting old but I remember the days when 2 Live Crew, NWA and many of 2Pacs rougher songs were not on the radio. You had to have the cassette tape to hear those songs. He11 not even all of MC Hammers songs were played on the radio. Most of todays music is throw away anyway. Here today gone tomorrow music. They just killed the Bankroll Fresh guy over a sandwich or soda the other day. These rapper guys take themselves way too seriously. See Birdman's Breakfast Club interview where a black man born in 1969 behaves like a child born in 1998. Its embarrassing man, and Birdman is supposed to be the leader of these younger guys. The fans are a big part of this problem especially young white fans. They buy the music to feel tough. Which fuels the Jew record execs to produce more of this music for the whites that actually buy most of these records. I just saw the 2chains THOT video...maybe 3 days ago. I had never seen it but heard about it in passing. Embarrassing!! I thought sex with a woman was a goal for many of these rapper guys? Maybe the goal is sex with men. 2Chains behavior was absolutely terrible in that clip and the girl tried so hard to play it off but my discerning eye could see her eyes watering. If he didnt want her there, have security escort her out. Atlanta youth is the king of this knucklehead "Im better than you culture" and it makes Atlanta suck. Ready for the days of Drug Dealing - Stripper music to go out of style already man. Its the only Rap we hear now.
Yeah I agree. It's embarrassing. A bit frustrating when you want to introduce good music to someone you know but they are so convinced that the non-lyrical lean-sipping 808 music where you have no idea what theyre saying is the best music there is. This happens everywhere but definitely noticeable in Atlanta. Remember when it was T.I. , Outkast, Ludacris, Jermaine Dupri, Lil Scrappy, Lil Jon, Crime Mob.....? That's when I actually liked ATL rap music. It was down and dirty, tough-talking DIRTY SOUTH music. I hate what comes out now because its SOFT.

When guys like Young Thug came out, it took a huge blow to Atlanta's rap image, because it exposed the "gayness" and lame-ness of the rap culture here, as well as how we just have no real standards here..we pretty much accept anything. His crew including Birdman, Rich Homie Quan...are sometimes referred to as the "booty goons". Now outsiders joke around that you may get attacked by Atlanta thugs not by their guns, but by their d**ks.

Waka Flocka, yea he's lyrically wack, but I think he's still one of the very few that still creates songs that make you want to beat someone up to lol.

I don't buy trap but I hear it quite a bit just driving around town. Personally I would bring back Outkast -- those guys had some real talent.

i really like trap (i'm listening to it now), but my knowledge of who's on the scene is incredibly limited; major lazer was my introduction to trap music just last year and i started hanging out at more clubs and hearing a lot of stuff i liked, but i couldn't name any local DJs or groups.

for those of you who say you don't like trap, a lot of it sounds like jazz. that's the stuff i like, not the noisy stuff. just give this a try and tell me it's not smooth

Other commenters were thinking this about this electronic music too, but this isn't the trap I'm referring to though. That's trap-step. It's mixed with EDM. I'm talking about the original trap music that refers to southern hip hop. Nowadays, trap music is 808 beats, synthesizers, FL Studio type of stuff. It originally evolved from aggressive, drug-dealing rap music from Three 6 Mafia, Jeezy, and T.I.

If you want a better idea of what I'm talking about, watch those NOISEY Atlanta documentaries on Youtube.

Producers include Metro Boomin, Lex Luger, Zaytoven, TM88. I respect the producers. They are great. It's just that the beats are so imbalanced because they are accompanied by extremely wack rappers.

It was fire for the time. When DJ Hollywood started his little raps on the mike "throw your hands in the air, and wave them like you just don't care", that was fire at that moment. As the culture and lyrics progressed the bar was raised. These garbage fake trap, rappers have lowered the bar.
