A huge storm supposed to came through Atlanta last night and it just disappeared. Has anyone figured out why this often happens when storms pass Alabama and disappear or decrease in intensity when they hit the GA line?

Did it disappear or just not come to Atlanta?

Any time a news station includes half the state in their weather report (which by the way is what is droned on about for 80% of the time), then you don't really know what area they are talking about. As much as I don't mind knowing what's going on in Athens, I don't want to hear about weather while calling it Atlanta. Do they not have news stations there to cover it?

Last I heard, the storm was going to be far south of the metro. It's like you need to know where things are happening. It's annoying.

It just disappeared lol. It was a huge storm moving east from Alabama. It was from Montgomery to TN. Huge yellow and red storm last night on the radar. It was aiming right at Atlanta last night and time it hit the GA line is broke up and dissappeared

Didn't exactly disappear. Northeast of Atlanta got absolutely hammered this afternoon by the storm. (i-85 corridor)

I have been noticing this for years. No matter how big a storm is coming across Alabama, and even western Georgia, we always get mere sprinkles, if anything, in NW Atlanta. usually they dissipate before they ever get to the metro, but sometimes, it's when it gets to the city.

Look at the two attached pictures of massive storms coming across Atlanta. Both of these were storms moving east. And on both occasions, we got nary a drop in the Bolton area. It's really bizarre how much storms dissipate.

It seems to be happening again today. I'm in North Fulton. Lots of rumbles of thunder, not a drop of rain.

And apparently, less than three hours after I made my post, our neighborhood got hammered. Might have been something akin to a tornado or straight-line winds. Poles and trees down, leaves everywhere...crazy.

What was the timing? After sunset a lot of storm systems dissipate especially if thermal instability was a main driving force.
