Thats so true. A degree will never replace an Eye,ear or brain. If a mule goes to college,all you get is an educated mule. That Ivy Leage paper doest mean didly..Nixon and Bush graduated from Harvard. Even Harvard makes mistakes..It looks like that Ivy League degree from the gentleman from NY did not do much from him either..what a puss..

Thank you so much for this info. I am realizing more and more that my resume was full of the too much self praise. Just need the basics of what did, that skills I have.

Thanks so much and re-doing my resume now! Now all I need is a car and to get out of Clayton now that they are losing the acreditdation. LOL!

There were two people "speaking" in the posts...my loud-mouthed fiancee and myself. I apologize if his words offended anyone. To clarify, I'm the NYC native who recently moved to Atlanta in search for a stable, good life (house, car, great job)

In my resume, I basically summarize my work experience, skills, other achievements and education. The achievements section lists about 4 things I've done in my life (example of one is when I represented my HS and a virtual company in a trade show in Vienna Austria). I simply state that and didn't fluff it up. Would companies perceive the achievements section as arrogant?

Your cocky, get anything done attitude is precisely why you haven't found a job here.
I am one of those "damn yankees"... moved down here in '04 and I am NEVER going back. I LOVE ATLANTA.
But it does take some getting used to, chance of pace wise, especially in your mind. You have to learn how to read people, how to think like they think, how to respond the way that they respond.

Once you get that down pat, my God, I've never had trouble finding a job. Perhaps it is a culture clash that has kept you from finding anything.

I've never gone more than a week without 3 or 4 job offers coming way, and I'm currently employed. I am constantly being contacted by head-hunters and placement agencies, not to mention other companies in my industry seeking me out and trying to employ me.

Then again, I am in sales... so that might be part of it.

However... maybe it's time for you to accept that maybe YOU are the issue, not the city. Of course your fiance is going to agree with you, she's your fiance. It doesn't mean that Atlanta is desolate.

Also... don't put "cornel graduate" in your objective, if that's what you're using on your resume.

Your resume needs to start with a clear, easy to understand purpose, and they'll see you're a Cornell Graduate at the end... stating it at the begining sounds like bragging. You HAVE to realize that people here in Atlanta don't like people who talk about how good they are at their job and how wonderful they are, etc... people here do not like an ego, and if they see you coming across as having a big ego, they will ignore everything that comes out of your mouth. (This is a broad general statement, but I have found it to be true, hopefully I am not offending anyone.)

For instance, this is a good objective:

Experienced and self-motivated individual seeking opportunities in the fields of sales and finance.

all the blah de blah everything else is unneccessary.

I realize the last post was a month ago, but hey, I'm slow. I apologize if anything in my previous post sounded nasty, I finally finished reading and understand that there are two posters from the same SN. I have a fiance, too.
