According to a tipster, Nick’s Food to Go — a longstanding, family-operated Greek take-out shop — and the adjacent Conklin Metal Industries building will likely be replaced by luxury apartments with possible retail onsite.

The tipster goes on to say that Nick himself revealed he will be closing the doors of his eatery, which has been a neighborhood institution since opening in 1994. And deeds reflect that the property is being sold, we’re told.

We don't need anymore upscale restaurants, we need more places like Nick's and Daddy Dz that add different flavors to the community (something that's not fancy "new-south") for an affordable price. I'm all for development, but this announcement hits hard...I wish they would consider re-opening in the building, although prices would likely dramatically increase. How about at The Beacon? That would be a great place for them!

I would also like to see them reopen as a ground retail spot at any of the 5+1 mixed-use developments.

Nick’s Food to Go isn’t going anywhere after all, according to Greg Giuffrida, the Memorial Drive Corridor Executive who oversees all things Memorial Drive for Central Atlanta Progress.
Quote:
While it’s unclear if the building is being sold, Giuffrida indicates that developer Perennial Properties is working to ensure that Nick’s remains a part of the community once they turn the adjacent Conklin Metals property into multifamily housing. The project will rise across the street from the already under-construction Grant Park Apartments.

Sounds like they did great business last week, and were already telling people they were not planning to close.

Your regular reminder that Curbed Atlanta is usually not a reputable source for news... except for when they're publishing stuff that's coming directly from a developer (basically serving as a PR mouthpiece).

So happy they're not leaving. Glad to see a community old-timer survive through the continued building boom. Last time I went, Nick's daughter was telling me she remembers the days when the Hill St underpass was a prime spot for murder and robbery, and can't believe the changes happening around her. She's seen some major shifts in that area since the restaurant has been there!

Looks like there might be some demo at the Bar One lot which, eternal delays notwithstanding, is supposed to become some sort of hipst(burg)er restaurant. I saw an excavator parked in the lot this morning.
