Know of any details on MARTA upgrades? (mobile payments, cell coverage, etc.) Post them here!

It looks like one of the fare gates at Lindbergh has been outfitted with a device to scan phones. It was only on the one gate, so it might just be a test. I haven't heard any announcement yet. Are mobile payments going to happen soon!?!

Nice. I know they are testing a new mobile (phone) payment option with the streetcar. This may be part of it.

One can hope it's a system-wide upgrade coming (yes, system-wide with the streetcars and MARTA as one system)

Sounds promising! Looks like it's QR code-based, I really hope they also allow payments with NFC, which would be a lot easier and wouldn't require installing a special Breeze card app.

I mean, the Breezecards are NFC, so I'd be surprised if they didn't. I think the QR codes are for those who don't have NFC in their phones, but still want to use mobile.

Oh please make this a thing.

While we're at it, the track-level station markings at Lindbergh and Oakland City need to be made system-wide. No more of those ugly orange-background-white-text labels on the Red and Gold lines.

The fare stations at the streetcar stops look identical to those just outside MARTA stations.

And yet they're apparently hard to use. I dunno what's up with that since I haven't used them for buying a fare yet.

I will say that they should accept MARTA trips (as opposed to straight monetary amount) as soon as the next streetcar expansion is opened.

While MARTA is only 48 miles of track, the 50/50 split allowed the system to reinvest in maintenance and avoid the disasters that have plagued WMATA and BART (both nearly the same age.)
