Are there any areas in or near McDonough with good K-12 public schools? All listings that I've seen (even for $600+) homes have very low-rated public schools.

If the public schools, in fact, are lousy, are there any good private schools?

The Union Grove and Ola clusters are two areas of highly-rated K-12 public schools in a Henry County school system where many schools may be somewhat mediocre.

Eagle's Landing Christian Academy is a highly-regarded (and probably the best) private school in Henry County.

Peoples Baptist Academy and Strong Rock Christian School seem to be two other highly-regarded private school options worth looking into in a county with seemingly somewhat limited private school options.

I don't wanna know what you consider very low. All the schools in Henry County are good.

The Union Grove and Ola clusters. Very highly regarded.

A tertiary option could be the Locust Grove cluster.

Union Grove and Ola are the best options in Henry county. Here are the top scoring high schools on the south side of Atlanta on the 2015 SAT. One caution interpreting this data is in Fayette County over 90% of the kids take the SAT, but for Ola, Union Grove, and East Coweta only 35%-50% of the kids take the SAT which tends to inflate their test scores. You can see the variability in the # of test takers. Most of these schools have around 1400-1600 students. East Coweta has around 2800 students, but had about the same number of test takers as Starr's Mill even though Starr's Mill has less than 1/2 the students.

2015 SAT Scores:

High School:.......Score:...........# of Students Tested.........Total Students
Union Grove.......1553....................171........... ...............1633
Ola....................1452....................111 ..........................1600
McIntosh............1624....................318... .......................1684
Starr's Mill..........1609....................307......... .................1399
Whitewater.........1528....................291.... .......................1392
East Coweta........1502...................306.......... ................. 2855

McDonough is an easy commute from South Fayette County if you're wanting to get into good school districts. Whitewater and Starr's Mill HS clusters are both solid. Fayette County Schools are among the best in the state and the best in South Metro hands down. But you'll pay more for a house in Fayette County for the priviledge.
