DL HOPES TO RESUME ATL-PVG

- Tue Jun 21, 2016
The A350 would allow DL to restart ATL-PVG in the nearby future.

“We gotta get the Shanghai flight back for Atlanta. We’re working on that,” Bastian said during a breakfast talk at a Gwinnett Chamber event Thursday. “I’m hoping that the next year or two, that’ll be my personal contribution to the community. Because Atlanta needs Shanghai. Shanghai is the capital of Asia, from my vantage point, for the future.”

Delta has ordered 25 Airbus A350-900 wide-body airplanes for delivery starting in mid-2017, which Bastian said “will be a perfect airplane” for the route.

Delta being buying both Boeing and Airbus for a while now. It also inherited Northwest fleet of Airbus.

Thought when the employees bought the 767 "Spirit of Delta" for them that should have set the tone at Delta.

This is a pretty important route for Delta to try make work.

Several years back China Eastern joined the Skyteam alliance and have their primary hubs in Shanghai. If these airlines can work well together this is a hub-to-hub backbone route offering many possibilities for many different travel markets between the US and China.

Delta had lost its bid to pull Japan Airlines to the Skyteam alliance. ANA is a member of the Star Alliance.

Cooperation between Korean Air and Delta is present, but also minimal as they seem to compete with each other.

Delta/Skyteam has a huge hole in their network. This won't fill it, but it will do a small part.

NW had a LOT of different aircraft. Airbus, Boeing, a zillion DC9's from their acquisition of Republic, etc.

We were very close to 99 different "master fleets" (aircraft type and engine intermix combinations) on the NW gross weights system once upon a time. That's a lot of variation.

Exactly, I think it will definitely succeed since China Eastern gives Delta passenger choices beyond Shanghai. Furthermore I think DFW is our strongest competition for business relocating. I believe DFW has Nonstops to Hong Kong and Beijing. I would love to see Atlanta gain more Asia nonstops.

Yeah, they need to figure out how to work together better. Delta is slowly dismantling the Tokyo hub they inherited from Northwest in favor of Seattle, and some nonstop flights from L.A.

The Korean hub in Seoul is fantastic, and Delta needs to harness the power of the massive code-share possibilities there. I agree that there is a large hole in their Pacific network at present.

Yes, they do. And American flies a new 787-800 to Beijing from there.

I can not wait to fly on one.
