I think the distinction needs to be made on the difference between a "rural" county near a decently large city like Columbus or even Albany or Valdosta and a county where the largest city might be 5,000 people. Those are the counties really at risk. Then there are areas out in the plains where you have to drive 50 miles just to make it to a town of 5,000+ people.

Savannah wants more growth but their leadership has prevented that growth because they have largely been inept at being able to seeing its potential.
I think NOW they are and I really think Charleston has been the catalyst for the Savannah leaders to open their eyes.
Especially since Boeing moved into Charleston

It sounds to me like the ATL and Georgia in general is going to be getting a whole lot more Hispanic.

The Air Force base is in Warner Robins
Warner Robins is a suburb of Macon, I don't care what the census bureau says. They share transit, and media stations and Warner Robins doesn't have a city center (much like Sandy Springs or Dunwoody for example). Macon is the obvious anchor for Middle Georgia with the hospitals of the region and the largest city center of the region and it's growing now. Mercer University is also a large draw. Warner Robins simply doesn't have urban amenities like those.

Probably the name of a generic subdivision in the sea of Atlanta suburban sprawl

From an outsider it may look like that buts thats was in the past many years ago when WR relied on Macon as the center. Now they equally rely on each other. One does not over power the other.

Your Sandy Springs argument does not apply here as Sandy Springs would not be Sandy Springs without Atlanta.
Warner Robins exist soley because of the base since the day it was founded.

To say Warner Robins (Houston County) is apart of Macon would me that Houston County functions like other counties in Macon's counties that actually are in its MSA. For instance like Jones,Crawford,Monroe or Twiggs. Houston County is just not dependent on Macon like those counties.

In fact neither is Peach County as it is in WR's MSA. Most people in Peach work in WR. Especially in Byron like where my parents now live.
Only time my parents go to Macon is for Sams and they are there ALL the time!LOL.Or they will come to Atlanta.

WR has a strong civic identity that is not tied intp Macon.Even when it was apart of Macon's MSA.A large part of that comes from the footbal history of WR

Macon USED to be the anchor but all the main factories and plants are gone,Robins AFB is THE anchor for all of Middle Georgia.
When I grew up there it was the other way around.
The Macon Mall was the only place in middle GA to shop along with other smaller malls in Macon.

Houston County Hospital is quite big now.Its not a small hospital like it used to be.They have many specialist that Macon does.I fact as a region its still lacking. My sister had to come to Atlanta for a procedure that was more common in Atlnata ,although se could have done it in Macon or WR.

Population of Macon is barely 153,000. WR is at least 73,000 and is growing much faster as are its suburbs like Perry and Byron.Macon proper is just stabilizing. Its not really growing or loosing.Macon-Bibb County Consolidated in 2012 and thats where the growth is.

Mason and WR are like night and day in every way. You can believe what you want but WR is fullly self sufficient just like Macon. Both could do without the other, but both would be hurting.
