If you're sick of seeing these teens get a slap on the wrist just to terrorize another family the next day, please sign and share this petition.

Instead of advocating for mandatory minimums maybe you should advocate for summer programs so that these "undesirables" as you called them in your other post, can have other things to do instead of having to resort to crime. You can't ask people to leave a life of crime without offering any type of alternative. & jailtime with a criminal record isn't a viable alternative. You as a self identifying black man should know that a criminal record dampens your future exponentially. If you throw them in jail they won't have any alternatives apart from crime when they get out. & if they have kids then they will have a father out of the picture which you know as a black man only leads to a higher risk of turning to a life of crime ensuring the cycle never ends. Your hope seems to be the gentrification pushes them away from their homes, your new home, or pushes them in jail.

I agree with everything WealthIsHealth just said, and would like to add that the US has such horrible recitivism rates, that you're far more likely to create repeat and career crimials with jail time than not.

Rather than add prison to the mix, why not mandate practical community service? Put them to work on cleaning up, repairing, and maybe even beutifying their dommunities with proper supervision. Let them spend time with police, garbage collectors, landscapers, community leaders, etc. instead of even worse criminals. Maybe even offer low-paying jobs to them (and others) to come back and continue to do the work once their sentence is up?

If you break into a home or business it should be a 5 year term in the state pen. Once word of a harsh sentence gets around a lot of it would stop.

So you think they're breaking into homes with guns because they have nothing else to do? With all the community programs and summer programs...that's why they're breaking into homes? ok. that made zero sense.

Exactly. You should be allowed to be out in a few hours to do this again. Please sign and share.

If you think you can save these kids by giving them community service then go right ahead. But most of them, upon sentencing are sentenced to community service. That hasn't stop them yet. And honestly, it's not up to the innocent people they terrorize to save them. That's their parents job. I would like to assure that the consequences are harsh enough that they think twice about doing it. Because at this point, they know they won't do any time so there's noting to deter them.

So community service can't save them but prison with mandatory minimums can? What do you plan to do with them when they get out? & not everyone is fortunate enough to have a parent at home all day to watch what you're doing. The parents probably don't know what their kids are doing & if they do know they don't know how to stop them besides calling the police. & no parent wants to call the police on their own children.

Last Friday several members of the LNGM gang were handed stiff sentences for home invasions, carjacking and armed robberies. However, it should be noted that there were multiple offenses involved.

Fight Back Against Crime (FBAC) Virginia Highland: VaHi Safety Team Report Weeks 23 and 24 (5/29/16 – 6/11/16)

Home invasion is a very serious crime that cuts to the core our safety. By definition, it means the forceful entry into a home that is known to be occupied, with the intent of committing a violent crime against the occupants, such as robbery, assault, rape, murder, or kidnapping. It's worse than burglary in my opinion.

Should home invasion automatically carry prison time? Maybe not in some cases, but I agree that it warrants more than community service. The race of the perpetrators has nothing to do with it -- the crime is just as bad no matter who does it.

So what's you're solution. To allow them to continue until someone kills them? Because being dead is much better than jail.
