I guess 1995 seems like it wasn't that long ago.

It wasn't a research university in 1995. In fact MCG and Augusta College were separate institutions at that time. Augusta College became Augusta State University in 1996, but still wasn't a research university.

Exactly, I'm not sure where 1995 came from

I think Gulch is right. GSU was a research university long before that.

I guess I misunderstood. But MCG was considered a research university long before the consolidation with Augusta State. I think 1995 was when the schools were divided up neatly as colleges and universities and the tiers established.

I guess I should have been more specific. It became a comprehensive research university in 2012 with plans to mature it to an R1 research university over the next 20 years.

As an UGA graduated, any school in Georgia is better than UGA.

I am a Georgia State alumni and I will be a panther to the day I die but it seems that Georgia employers didn't respect the school that much. If you didn't go to GA Tech, UGA, or Emory it seemed hiring managers turned their nose up at all the other Georgia universities.

I temped at Georgia-Pacific as a chemist and all the chemical engineers and developmental chemists came from GA Tech and Emory. All the UGA and Georgia State grads had the bottom of the totem pole grunt work jobs at the R&D site.

I left the state for a full time chemist position in another state and everyone thinks GA state football team is the Bulldogs. I have to say "wrong school". It is good that Georgia State's reputation is getting better every year. It takes time. GSU is one of the youngest schools in the south.
